Rafał Blechacz, a young Polish pianist, made a lasting impression at the prestigious Warsaw Chopin Competition in October 2005. He won first prize, as well as four special prizes, including the prize for the best performance of a Chopin sonata, awarded by Krystian Zimerman. Blechacz’s sensitive and unassuming personality and highly nuanced performances, which were greatly enjoyed,  are already leading some to hail him as Zimerman’s successor.
